One Way that Human Beings are like Electro-Magnets

My mind has been whirling ever since taking Vicki Slater’s course Physics and Spiritual Healing for Healers.  It has been so helpful to think of human beings as electro-magnets.  This makes total sense.  In experimenting with small round magnets, I noticed this principle: when magnet A is repelling magnet B, the field holds steady for a time, but when B moves closer in, then A’s field dissolves and she clings very strongly to B.  Forgive me for anthropomorphising these magnets with a gender.  But it did make me think about how often a woman A will push B away for a time, but then changes when B moves closer.  What is that about, do you think?  Is it just that A isn’t strong enough? Or does she need to maintain her space and distance to keep her strength?  A magnet is not a person so doesn’t have the emotions to belong — does it?  I’m pondering this phenomenon.  Any comments?

New Bookstores carrying my book

Instinct, at 622 View Street in Victoria BC, has taken a few copies of my book.  If you live in or near Victoria, here is a good place to buy it.  The store, run by Grant and Lindy Edmonds, has a wealth of cards, crystals, candles and other art.  It’s a great place to browse and buy that special gift.  Diana Jones and I spent a few dollars there.  Lots of fun and inspiration!

In Kelowna, Mandala Books at 3023 Pandosy Ave. bought copies of my book also.  That is another magical store to find those special gifts.  Jenny and Dee have a wide range of books and spiritual resources.  Jenny and I shared stories of amazing hitch-hikers.  We had a great conversation and shared a hug before I left.  I like Kelowna very much.

Power Point version now available

Your Invisible Bodies: a reference for children and adults about human energy fields is now available on CD, in a version for facilitators of children’s study groups.  The power-point version allows the leader to manually advance the pages, keeping everyone on the same page, literally.  Facilitator’s questions for discussion appear in a narrow window below the slides.  As well the CD contains an audio file of the Inner Star Meditation, which is used three times during the study.  The lesson plans could take as many as 16 sessions, but could be fewer depending on the pace and depth of discussion.

The text for the power-point slides has been upgraded and expanded from the text in Your Invisible Bodies (2nd edition).  It is ready for a third printing of the book, which will happen sometime before 2011.  The CD cover contains a table of contents, the Inner Star Meditation, and an Introduction. Another  file on the CD is the revised Study Guide, which contains all the questions for discussion.  This 23-page document can be printed by the buyer if s/he wishes to use it to refer to during the slide show, rather than read the questions below each slide.   It is designed to be very user-friendly.

At present the CD is not available in the bookstores that already carry Your Invisible Bodies, because I’m waiting for the printers to produce the labels with ISBN and barcode.  Until then, you can buy the CD from me directly.  Email me and we’ll make arrangements.

It’s all good!

Book Signings in Kamloops and Duncan

I will be at TheArtWeAre in Kamloops, BC, on Tuesday August 3rd to read from my book and show the power-point version of Your Invisible Bodies.  TheArtWeAre is a teahouse and gift shop on the second floor, at 322 Victoria Street.  Owner Cristina has great snacks as well as a wide range of teas.  You can browse through the gallery of local artists and artisans, buy gifts for yourself or others, and just enjoy the day.  It’s usually my first destination when I visit Kamloops.   I’ll be driving there from Prince George, and expect to be at TheArtWeAre for a reading at 3:00 p.m.

The second reading is in Duncan on Sunday, August 8th, at 2:00 p.m.  Same topic and hopefully with lots of questions and interactions from listeners.  Wishes, at 125 Station Street in Duncan, is a gift and bookstore that offers very beautiful work. You can buy jewelry, art, figurines, cards, books, candles, all on mystical and imaginative themes.  Jackie and her staff would love to see you!  Browse and buy the wee gift that strikes your fancy.  Or buy my book or CD if you are intrigued after hearing the presentation.  No pressure, though.  I just love to talk about my book and the ideas and vision that guided me in producing it.

If you are in the area those days, drop into TheArtWeAre in Kamloops, or Wishes in Duncan.   Even if I’m not at the store when you are, you will find much to admire in these shops.  It’s all good!

Feedback at the Spirituality and Social Work Conference

I had a super time at this conference, hosted by the Faculty of Social Work in Calgary and St. Thomas University in New Brunswick.  The presenters were excellent, and I took part in sessions throughout the three days.  I also sold my book, Your Invisible Bodies, during the breaks.  This resulted in great conversations with conference goers.  I was happy to sell 11 books during that time.  Roger Joyeux joined me at the table, selling some of his books The Story of Light: both Part 1 and Part 2.   Our colleague Heather Good attended the conference also, and we sold some of her books, Conscious Mindful Leadership.   You can find out about these other books at the www.calgaryauthors.com

When I got home on Saturday evening after the conference ended, I received a call from Helen, one of the MSW students attending and assisting at the conference.  She said, “Your book is lovely… I think every child should have this book.”

That was pretty exciting!  To have Social Workers endorse the book is a real plus.  The power-point version has a disclaimer advising those who use it with children to ensure they are qualified to guide discussion.  Only some of the topics are contentious, but whenever we encourage children to share their feelings, we have to be ready to deal with their revelations responsibly.

I’m not a Social Worker, so the Code of Ethics from the Faculty of Social Work doesn’t apply to me.  However, whoever facilitates group discussion with children is ethically responsible to care for the children.   The agency, or in some cases, the individual, assumes full ethical and moral care to ensure we do no harm.  In most cases that simply means we have to be prepared to refer abuse cases to the appropriate authorities.   There could be instances where children disclose abuse while reading and discussing the content in Your Invisible Bodies.  Any time we encourage children to share their own experiences and their feelings, we must be capable and compassionate in dealing with the outcome.

Inner Star Meditation

I have made an audio version of the Inner Star Meditation.  That particular meditation is written for children and is three minutes long.  It is introduced when the book (and power point version) introduce the concept of our inner star.  From p. 16:

Our spiritual body is a part of Spirit inside us. This body is with us from birth.  When we were born our spiritual body started as a spark of energy from outside.  It is like a star inside, which grows throughout our lives.  This star, or light, can never go out, no matter what happens around us.

You can find this mp3 file, for free download, here.

Spirituality and Social Work Conference

I will be attending the International Conference on Spirituality and Social Work on June 17 – 19, University of Calgary.  It looks like a great conference, and is open to academics, students and professionals with an interest in the role of spirituality in the healing and health of individuals and ocmmunities.  If you are interested in knowing more, go to www.spiritualityandsocialwork.ca   I will be there to take an energy healing workshop with Douglas Chung, a master in QiGong, at a pre-conference workshop.  There are several workshops on aboriginal spirituality, as well as trauma and other work.  I’ll be signing and selling my books there too.  It’s a great opportunity for me to learn more and to network with like-minded people.  Thanks to Barbara Burse-Hanning, one of my Healing Touch colleagues at Knox United Church, I found out about this conference two weeks ago.  I’ve told a few of my social worker friends, plus others in CalgaryAuthors.com.  It looks very interesting.   Barbara commented, “Social workers are really in the lead regarding spiritual healing.”  Hmmm –   check it out.
